The Florida Cannabis Action Network strives
to find novel ways to draw more people into the debate about
current drug policies. FL CAN uses direct action to educate
the mass public and provides legal and technical support for
individuals and fledgling groups committed to reaching out
in their own communities. FL CAN is seeking partners who are
willing to dedicate their time and resources to providing
safe access to marijuana for those in need and ending the
incarceration of nonviolent drug defendants. |

What CAN
I do now?
For the past three years Governor Jeb
Bush and his mouthpiece, Florida Drug Czar Jim McDonough have
been criticized for the state's aggressive policy against drug
users, which holds such strong focus on incarceration. They
have deflected these complaints by telling us how important
they believe drug treatment is and its being a better approach
to dealing with drug abuse and the associated crimes that often
go with it.
Monday Bush removed a majority of the state budget which pays
for drug treatment in our prisons, ending programs in all but
four of the states treatment facilities. Followed by his daughter
being arrested and released without bond on felony drug charges
less than 48 hours later. While we all hope that Ms Bush gets
any and all appropriate help she needs, it brings clearly to
the forefront the hypocrisy of 'get tough on drugs' laws.
